AQC '99 News

1/18 4:15pm
Congrats to Roger and Daniel on making it to Fantasy Bowl II!  This is the second consecutive year for Roger to make the Fantasy Bowl.  Both seasons he earned the 5th place seed in the playoffs and made it to the finals.  Daniel's win over Papa was his first playoff victory ever.  He earned the 1st round bye last year but was eliminated by Roger in the 2nd Round.  Daniel is 3-0 lifetime verses Roger.  Roger swept him during the regular season this year.  Roger is 5-0 life time in the playoffs.  Daniel is 1-1.

Congrats to Davy and Deuce on making it to Toilet Bowl I!  Both teams earned a 1st Round bye in the playoffs and have met in the finals of the first ever Toilet Bowl.  Davy had the only winning record of anybody that made the Toilet Bowl.  He did not make the Fantasy Bowl playoffs by virtue of a 3-way tie that was broken by total regular season points.  Deuce is a Rookie to AQC this year.  He just missed the Fantasy Bowl playoffs by 1 game.  He is by FAR the most improved player in AQC '99.  At the beginning of the season, Deuce was quite a bit behind in knowledge of football and the NFL (he picked Deion Sanders to be the league MVP, rushing leader, passing leader, and receiving leader).  But just yesterday, he was able to tell me the name of the quarterback that was replaced by Kurt Warner, and we discussed salary cap managing strategies that the Rams might use to keep both quarterbacks on the rosters.  I was quite impressed!  Deuce has clearly spent plenty of time studying for the AQC.  Watch out for him next year!  Deuce and Davy spilt in the regular season this year.

I've built a new section of this site especially for the playoffs.  Playoff Index has just about all the info you need in the playoffs.  The Stat program that we use has not been updated for the playoffs yet, so you will have to work manually for now.  Eventually, I expect the program to work for the playoffs.

1/3 10:20am
Deuce can steal Christina's spot in the playoffs if Jerry Rice scores 84 points against Atlanta tonight on Monday Night Football.  The record for WR's is 78 set by Marcus Robinson (Chi) in week 15.

12/27 10:48am
The Playoffs Picture is clearing up just a bit.  I've posted the standings already because they should not change.  All games are final except Deuce and Roy.  Deuce has the highest point total for the week so far, and he is up 187-145 over Roy.  Roy still has Keyshawn Johnson playing against Miami tonight. Keyshawn needs 140 yards and 2 TD's or the equivalent to beat Deuce and win the week for Roy.

The Playoffs Picture is clearing up just a bit:

Daniel (11-5) is in with the Bye after a 1 point win over Papa.

The winner of Matt (11-5) and Shane (10-6) in week 17 will determine the Champion of the Western Division.  Both have clinched playoff births already.

The pivotal game of week 17 is Christina's (9-7) game against Daniel.  Deuce, Davy, and Roger are all tied at 8-8, and there is only 2 playoff spots that are not already claimed.  Roger swept Christina so he has the tiebreaker over her.  Christina beat both Davy and Deuce head-to-head and has the tiebreaker over each.  Davy and Deuce both beat Roger and have the tiebreaker over him.   And Davy and Deuce spilt their head-to-head match-ups and have an even Division record, so their tiebreaker goes to Total Season points (Deuce leads 1974-1507).

So what all this means is that if Christina wins, she goes to the playoffs and leaves the last playoff spot up to Deuce, Davy, and Roger.   Then, because of tiebreakers, if Deuce wins, he's in; if Davy wins AND Deuce loses, he's in; but if Roger wins AND Davy AND Deuce both lose, Roger is in.  But if Christina LOSES, and only 1 team of Davy, Deuce, and Roger wins, then Christina and that team go to the playoffs uncontested.  If Roger, and Davy AND/OR Deuce win, then the tiebreakers don't matter and the playoff spots to the 2 teams with the highest Season Points Total.   If Davy and Deuce both win and Roger loses, then Christina is in and Davy and Deuce go to points as the tiebreaker.

Debbie (7-9) is OUT now despite her win because Roger and/or Deuce both won.

Ben (6-10) lost and is OUT now.

12/24 9:45am
Playoff Picture:

Roy (3-12) is Out.

David (5-10) is Out.

Debbie (6-9) can clinch with 2 wins, AND 2 Roger losses, AND 2 Davy losses, AND 2 Deuce losses, AND Ben has to lose to Roy.

Ben (6-9) can clinch with 2 wins, AND 1 Roger loss, AND 2 Davy losses.

Roger (7-8) can clinch three different ways:  with 2 wins, AND 1 Deuce loss, AND 2 Davy losses.  OR 2 wins, AND 1 Shane loss, AND 1 Deuce loss.  OR 2 wins, AND 2 Davy losses AND 1 Shane loss.

Deuce (7-8) can clinch 2 different ways:  Beat Ben AND 2 Davy losses AND 1 Roger loss.  OR 2 wins AND Davy loss 1 AND beat Davy in total season points.

Shane can clinch Playoffs with 1 win.  He can clinch the Bye with 2 wins.

Christina can clinch Playoffs with 1 win.  She can clinch the Bye with 2 wins AND Daniel beats Papa.

Papa HAS clinched the playoffs.  He can clinch the Bye with a win this week over Daniel.

Daniel HAS clinched the playoffs.  He can clinch the Bye with 2 wins OR a win over Papa this week AND a Christina loss.

Matthew HAS clinched the playoffs.  He can clinch the Bye with a win over Shane in week 17 OR a win and a Shane loss this week.  Matthew can clinch the TOP SEED in the playoffs by winning his last 2 games!!

12/21 4:45pm
For the first time in AQC History, 3 people, Papa, Debbie, and Roger, turned in scores of 200 points or more in the same week!  None of them have ever scored 200 before either!! (Roger scored 199 in week 1 and Debbie scored 198 in week 7.)

Papa had a historical week in his own right.  He won his second week of the season and moved into a tie for 1st place in the Eastern Division (and the league).  He scored 240 points, the second highest score ever (highest ever by a rookie).  But the most fascinating record that he broke was the highest score by a single player.  His week 3 free agent pick-up, Steve Beuerlein (QB-Car), scored 111 points against the SF 49ers on Saturday!! He threw for 368 yards, 4 TD's, 0 Int, and had a QB rating of 136.7!!  Roger, Papa's opponent, scored 200 points himself but it was not enough to beat Papa.

I'll report more later on the impact that Papa and Roger's all-important game had on the rest of the league.

12/18 11:10am
We're down to the nitty-gritty in AQC '99, and the Roger v. Papa game is the key.

Papa can clinch the playoffs with a win over Roger this week.  A loss by Roger does not eliminate him, but it means Shane, would have to lose twice and Ben, and Deuce would have to lose once apiece for him to make the playoffs.

Shane needs a win in the worst way.  A loss and a Roger win would make him rely on other people to make the playoffs.   But an win keeps the pressure on Roger.

Davy is on the hot seat too.  He can clinch the playoffs with two wins or miss them by losing two.

Christina and Matt can both clinch a birth this week if they win and Papa beats Roger.   If that happens, there will only be two playoff spots left unclaimed.
Ben and Deuce are playing elimination games.  But with a lot of luck, (Roger, Davy, Shane, Christina, and Matt would all have to lose and Ben and Deuce win) they can be right in the thick of things.

These next few weeks are going to be interesting!

12/14 9:25am
Most Fantasy Football leagues' regular seasons end after week 14.  BUT NOT AQC!!  We've got THREE more weeks of football to play!  (And it's a good thing for our current AQC Champion.)  I've had even more fun this year than
I did last season.  I LOVE the head-to-head thing!  It multiplies the fun infinitely many times.  I've already been thinking of things to improve the league next year; like giving points for Receptions, double points for kickers for Game Winning/Game Losing kicks, and maybe giving bonus points to the home team in each fantasy game.  I've got lots more.  Some are better than others, and I really don't expect that many of them to make the cut.   I'd LOVE to hear any ideas or suggestions of your own.  If you've got the guts to tell everybody your ideas, leave a message on the Message Board for everyone to see.  Or if you're chicken, you can send me an email here.

12/13 8:40am
The stats are going to be very delayed today.  I think it's because of Eddie Murry (K-Dal).  But, as usual, Christina has figured up the scores manually:

Week 14 Unofficial Scores

East

West

David 104   Davy 55 + McCaffery
Christina 111 + 20 (George leads) + Brunell + Hollis   Ben 74 + Smith

Papa 150 + Stewart   Roy 100
Debbie 92   Shane 116

Daniel 120 + Jax Def + Jax Coach   Deuce 96
Roger 174 + 20 (Bledsoe leads)   Matthew 130 + Elam

12/7 10:30am
After leading Your Picks for 10 straight weeks, Roger forgot to make his picks this week and was over taken by Shane by 1 game.  Matthew still leads in percentage with 67%.

The west is in a log jam with Shane, Matthew, and Davy all tied at 8-5.  Deuce is hanging in there at 6-7.

By having a record 4th 200 point game, I had the top score for the 5th time this season, also a record.  I've now won back my $25 league fee.

Although he went 1-6 against the Western Division, Roger has owned the East Division with a 5-1 record.  His only division loss is in week 3 to Papa & Grandma 116-91.  I hope to tie him at 5-2 with a win over him this week.

The average score that it takes to win a week is up to 204.3 points now.  The average score to win an individual game is 145.2 points.  The highest losing score is 187-200 by Shane against Daniel in week 10.  The lowest winning score is 71-49 by Davy against Matthew in week 13.

12/4 11:45pm
The Eastern Division beat the Western Division in Non-Division play by going 23-19.   The West was leading until week 11 when the East when 5-1 (Matthew's win over Daniel was the only win for the West that week).  Week 13 begins the second round of Division Play.   There's quite a few close races right now; some are for the division titles, some are for playoff spots, some are for money, and others are only for seeding in the Toilet Bowl.  The next few weeks will should be a BLAST!!

11/24 7pm
Matthew (7-4), the Mini-Pundit, pulled off the upset of the year knocking off  the top team in the league at this point, me (8-2), with a awesome score of 215-180.  That score earned him five bucks and more importantly, braggin' rights over me for a year (unless we meet again in the playoffs)!  With the early line set at 1,000,000 points, I was not concerned about Matthew's team.  Matthew had Charlie Batch (QB-Det), who was listed as "questionable" as his starter.  I had the highest scoring player in the league, Kurt Warner (QB-StL), playing against the 49ers, the worst pass defense in the league.  Then about 2pm on Sunday, I got a call from David asking if there is "anything I can do about" Matthew's QB.  Batch's team had already began the game and Batch was sitting on the bench.   Being overly cocky as I was, I told Dad that I was going to beat Matthew so badly that I'd allow him to get a 3 o'clock QB in place of Batch.  I suggested Tony Banks (QB-Bal) because he was playing against Cincinnati (1-9)Matt's Banks scored 47 points; Matt beat me by 35.
The win boosted his record to 7-4 to put him tied for 1st place in the Western DivisionDaniel has be beaten 3 times so far this year and had a 7 game winning streak coming into week 11.   Each time, it has been by the team with the week's top score in the league:   by Roger (5-6) in week 2, David (4-7) in week 3, and now Matthew (7-4) in week 11.

Speaking of streaks, Shane (7-4) lost his second consecutive game.  That loss broke Roger's (5-6)  five games skid and kept him in contention for a playoff spot.

11/16 7pm
Boy did I have a good weekend or what?  I finally got to watch football with Shane.  We had a blast.  We played all sorts of games from the time he got here until he had to leave.  And, thanks to a surprising   performance by the New York Jets, I barely hung on to win 200-187 for my 4th top score of the season, an AQC record.  How lucky can a guy be?

Enough about me, let's talk about you.

Roger (4-6) lost a sqeaker 87 to 90 against Davy (6-4).  Going into the Monday Night Football game, Roger only needed 29 more points to beat Davy.   He had Drew Bledsoe who averages 47.75 points per week and was leading the NFL in Passing Yards.  But Bledsoe had his worst game of the year throwing for only 170 yards with 2 TD's and 3 INT's for total of 25 fantasy points.  Since going 4-1 in Division play, he has dropped the last 5 games straight by going 0-5 against the Western Division.

Matthew, or should I say the AQC Swami, was a perfect 6-0 with his picks this week!  That moves his percentage up to 64%.  That's better than the Fantasy Forecast!  However, he has not picked as many winners on the season as Roger, Shane, Daniel, or David.   After week 10, Roger is in the lead with 32 wins, Shane has 30, Daniel has 29 and David has 26, Christina has 21, Deuce has 21, and Papa has 16.   Everybody else has only made their picks 1 or 2 weeks.

Matthew (6-4) also pull off an upset over Christina (6-4) 172-128.  In week 2 Matthew picked up Stephen Davis (RB-Wash), who is now the leagues best Running Back, off of free agency. Davis averages 30 points per game and has scored more than 40 points 4 times this year including 41 points this week.

With his win over Deuce (5-5) his week, Papa (5-5) has worked his way up into the playoff picture.  Although their records are tied and Deuce has 99 more total points than Papa on the season, Papa beat Deuce head-to-head to propel him out of the Toilet Bowl and into the Fantasy Bowl Playoff Picture.  We all (Papa & Grandma, Shane, David, Debbie, Christina, and myself) were watching the games together on Sunday.  The 12 o'clock game we were watching (between my flipping from game to game) was the Carolina @ St. Louis game.  To Papa's dismay, his quarterback, Steve Beuerlein of Carolina, wasn't playing to well.  He was sacked 6 times and threw 2 interceptions. Carolina allowed two defensive Touchdowns and lost 35-10.  It didn't look to good for Papa -- until Monday morning when he must have realized that HE HAD ST. LOUIS DEFENSE!!  They scored 64 points for him which made up for his quarterback's ineffectiveness.  Papa's win flushed Deuce out of the playoffs.   Now he sits on the throne (top spot in the Toilet Bowl Playoffs).
11/14 2am
Week 10 should be a BIG week in the AQC!  The top two teams in the league, Shane and Daniel, are matched up against each other.  Both tied at 7-2, the winner will have sole possession of the best record!   Shane started off the season EXTREMELY hot ripping through the Western Division undefeated with 5 straight wins, but cooled off in non-division played with a .500 record at 2-2.  Daniel on the other hand finished division play at only 3-2, but is currently on an AQC record 6 game winning streak.  Both have set AQC records this season with two 200+ games!  In Year-to-Date points, they are #1 and #2.  Daniel leads the league with 1476 total points, but Shane has been gaining on him and is now up to 1192, only 284 points back.   Both teams' players have excellent match-ups this week, and the game should be a barn-burner!  In honor of this, the biggest game so far in AQC '99, Shane has traveled nearly 500 miles to be here.  He says that he only hopes that he "didn't wasted his gas money."

11/2 2:00pm
Not only did we have the first team in AQC history to score 200 points twice in one season, but we had the second team to do it also!  AND they did it in the SAME WEEK!   Shane's Seattle Defense opened a can on Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers last night on Monday Night Football scoring 80 AQC points to propel Shane up through the Year-to-Date point standings from 4th place into just 13 points shy of 2nd (but still 225 points behind me)!  Shane, the football pundit, has the most POWERFUL OFFENSE in the AQC.  He would be in the lead by far except for his horrific 78% starter-to-max score rate.  If he figures out how to start the right players, we will ALL be in big trouble!

11/1 10:30am
For the first time in AQC history, we have a team that scored 200 or more points TWICE in a season! It's ME!!  Five out of the seven people that made picks selected me for the top score this week.  They were Papa, David, Christina, Deuce, and me.  The top score is not in the books yet though.  40 points of my 220 are from league leader bonuses that
could be beat.  That would drop my score to 180 and into THIRD place behind Deuce and Debbie.

Unfortunately for Debbie and Deuce, they are playing each other!  Currently, Deuce has 183 points and is finished.   Debbie has 181 counting a Marcus Robinson's 20 bonus points for his 161 yards receiving.  She also has Green Bay's Wide Receiver Antonio Freeman playing tonight.  If he can come up with 3 points and no wide receiver gains more that 161 yards passing, Debbie can still pull out the win.

10/25 12:55pm
The stats are being delayed again, but Christina has figured some of the scores to kinda give you a ballpark figure.  Fumbles are hard to track and Blocked kicks and other special teams points are difficult to find, but here's our best shot at it.
10/19 9am
Well, the East Division did not hold on to the sweep.  Out of nowhere, Matthew, the league's lowest scorer Year-to-Date, upset the Roger, the league's highest scorer.  Monday morning, the score was 84-79 Roger.  But with the 14 bonus points that the Tennessee Titan's Head Coach received for leading both the AFC Central and the AFC, Matthew pulled out a squeaker 93-84.  Nice going Matthew.   All of us in the Eastern Division (except Roger) are grateful to you for knocking our division leader down and causing a a 4-way tie for the lead.  Way to go!!

Also this week, the AQC rookies, Papa and Grandma, earned the top score and the $5 that comes with it in a VERY tight race with Debbie.  With the Monday night game left to play, the score was 134-135 (including their clinched coach bonuses) with Debbie in the lead.  Each had a Wide Receiver left to play.  Debbie had her last-minute acquisition, Ike Hilliard, and Papa and Grandma had their "almost first round draft pick", Rocket Ismail.  Hilliard ended up with 41 yards to Rocket's 74 to seal a 3 point lead for the rookies.

The only team left undefeated was defeated this week.  Shane, hurting at the Quarterback position, was only about to score 43 points this week against Debbie.  Although he did have another league leader on his bench, Marshall Faulk who rushed for 181 yards and a Touchdown and score a total of 58 fantasy points, that would not have been enough to beat the 139 points scored by Debbie.  Shane as now taken steps to correct his problem.   He has acquired the new Minnesota starting quarterback, Jeff George, who will play against the 49ers in week 7 who have allowed the most points in the league to opposing quarterbacks.  He also has Faulk playing in week 7 against the worst defense against the run, the Cleveland Browns.  I wouldn't want to be playing him this week.   Good luck David, you're gonna need it!!

10/18 7:30am
So far, the East Division has a complete sweep over the West Division. Will we hold on to it?

10/12 1:25pm
Week 5 was Bigtime!  I beat last years record of 206 points in 1 week with 286.   The NFL standings are upside down. Five of the top 6 teams in AQC Year-to-Date scores are in the East Division.  Roger and I are an entire week's score away from the next team in the YTD scores.  It was the last week of the first session of Division play.  Week 6 starts Non-Division games.

10/7 1:55am
I'm still experiencing technical difficulties with my website.  I'm trying to fix it.  In the mean time, Grandma has allowed me to use her website to host AQC '99.  All I'm updating on it right now is the essentials: Rosters, Transactions, Report Cards, and Stats Updates.  You can still however use the tripod AQC '99 site for most other information and history.  As for you weekly picks, you can submit them to me via email or any other way.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

There has been some big-time trades and a big name player or two have been dropped.   You can check out all this stuff on Grandma's website, www.colpat.com then go to AQC '99.

This is the last week of Intra-division play for a while.  There's only one team left undefeated!  Nice going Shane! Also, week 5 is the first week that bonuses for Head Coaches come into effect.  Here's how that works:

Head Coach:

After week 5:

The team(s) that has/have the best record in the NFL get the points for NFL, Conference, and Division for a total of 24 points.  The regular Win or Lose points are added or subtracted also.  The rankings go by win PERCENTAGE.  So if a team is 4-0 and a team is 5-0, they both have a winning percentage of 100%.  But if a team is 3-1 and a team is 4-1, the team with the 4-1 record has the higher percentage and would get the points.  If teams are tied, they both get full points (they don't spilt the points).  If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

9/29 6:40am
This was a wild week of AQC upsets!  Roger finally lost and David finally won! My Fantasy Forecast took a big hit (1-5).  This was the first week that I didn't submit an Early Line, and I think that hurt me.  I should have spent more time researching. AQC has only 3 teams left UNDEFEATED: Christina in the East, and Davy and Shane in the West.  The League Leaders this week were: Peyton Manning with 404 yards passing, Tim Biakabituka with 134 rushing, and Marvin Harrison with 194 yards receiving (and benched by Shane). Congratulations to David for kicking my butt this week with the top score in the league (second week in a row that I was matched up against the league leader; bummer).

9/16 11pm
On Thursday evenings, I get the NFL Injury Report updated on the Stats Programs.  I've made that update available.  You can download it and install it anytime.  You can make sure you don't have any lame players by checking your Starting Lineup (it can be found under Fantasy| Starting Lineups).

9/14 10:25pm
Week 1 is in the books, and Roger draws first blood.   I really got lucky on my Fantasy Forecast for this week.   I went 6-0!  I missed the spread on pretty badly on 3 of the games, but I was really close on 3 also.  I've picked myself to loose to Roger in the Early Line for Week 2, so I hope I'm wrong.  The Early Line for Week 2 was tallied using the players on each team as of this morning (Tues.).  If you've made some trades or will make some trades, I'm sure the lines will change accordingly before my Final Forecast.

9/12 6:56am
I have just learned that I will not be receiving my stats from my stats provider until sometime between 9am and 11am this morning.  I apologize for the delay.  I am anxious for them (because I think I won).  And in honor of the first day of stats, I will stay home and wait for them so that I can get them out as quickly as possible (sorry Mom and Dad, but some things in life are just more important than school ;-) ).

9/11 9:55pm
Here's how the scores will become available to you:  I'm supposed to get the stats in from my stats provider before 7am each day after the games.  I'll try to get the scores posted before I leave for class.  I have to leave home by 8am or so on Mondays and 7am on Tuesdays.  So it will depend on my stats people whether or not I can get the scores posted before school or if I'll have to wait until I get home.  I'll get them posted ASAP.

Remember the score sheets I gave out after games last year?  This year, the same score sheets will be available online under Report Cards.   The Report Card will include:  Commissioner's Comments, Head-to-head results, Division Standings, Total Team Points Rankings, All-Pro Team, and Box Scores.  Top Performers will also be posted.  The Top Performers ranks the players on total points for the week and the season.
