How Grandma Got
Hooked on Beanies

For Christmas 1997, Grandma bought Beanie Babies to put in all her grandchildren’s stockings on the advice of her daughter, Debbie. Debbie told Grandma that Beanie Babies would make good stocking stuffers, but she didn’t tell her to get “TY Beanie Babies.” So she bought them "Bean Sprouts." She learned quickly that TY was a better, more prestigious brand of Beanie.

The following January, Grandma went with Debbie and Christina, now her granddaughter-in-law, to shop for Christina's up coming wedding. They went into a Hallmark store, and Debbie saw some newly retired TY Beanies. The store’s rule was that you had to buy $20 worth of merchandise for each beanie you buy. So they bought $40 worth and got 2 retired Beanies. The Beanies were LegsLegs.gif (2571 bytes) and Magic magic.gif (3851 bytes). Debbie got them as a gift for her son Matthew. She put them in her attic so Matthew wouldn’t find them. To this day, she can’t find them herself!

Even after all of that, Grandma wasn’t hooked on Beanies. It was only after her birthday that she was hooked. Some of her grandchildren gave her Beanies for her birthday, and they were so cute that she couldn’t resist getting more. Ever since that day, she has been a lover and collector of Beanie Babies.

I am  now  the proud owner of  a
complete  Issy Bear collection.  I
now have them boxed for safe  keeping,
since I do not have room for all of
my beanies in my beanie room.
