As I was driving back from
Oklahoma City last Tuesday, I called and told Granny Dee,
"Let's go get groceries and supplies as soon as I get home. I read the sky and being an old pilot where weather was a life or death decision I knew what was coming. I saw the classic "sea waves" followed by the mares tails in a counter-clockwise rotation which means freezing rain followed by snow. Sure enough,we lost power Thursday about noon. Thursday night the trees iced up, fell across highways, telephone & power lines. We were ready for a day or so, but Friday morning PSO estimated the soonest return would be Monday 11PM. So we broug ht Granny Dee over to my home. I have a generator and fireplace. My hot water is gas, so we use hot water to heat our soup & ready cooked food. We moved our freezer stuff outside & put the refrigerator stuff by the back door inside. Almost perfect temperatures. I got one of those laser temperature guages for Christmas. Works great for a lot of things! All my family stateside is without power. But we help each other and we will make it just fine. Granny Dee and I were noticing how like it was all winter long in the "old days". But now I have an iPhone. Family, friends and neighbors have all been over with their cell phones for recharging! I think am one of the few with a functioning bird feeding station. More than a hundred customers all the time. |
